There are several talented runners bred on the same lines as Shinko Forest, none more so than Cape Cross. Both are by Green Desert out of Ahonoora mares, as is Gr.2 scorer Gabr Shinko Forest's 2005 Stakes winning 2-y-o Electric Beat is also ex a Definite Article (by Indian Ridge by Ahonoora) mare. Although it's also early days for Cape Cross, many of his Stakes horses are from mares from his own Northern Dancer line. Shinko Forest's multiple Stakes winner, Moss Vale, is also from a dam from his own Northern Dancer line - being by Last Tycoon (Try My Best). That said, using Green Desert as a starting point, there seem to be many options for Shinko Forest.

Green Desert has been fairly effective with Shirley Heights and his son Darshaan. With Shirley Heights mares, he has produced five Stakes winners, including three - Desert Shot, Mojave and Splendid Era - at Group level. Interestingly Shirley Heights is also the sire of the grandams of Gr.3 winner France (by Desert Prince) and Gr.2 winner Mokabra (by Cape Cross), while the high-class Kalaman (by Desert Prince) has Riverman in his pedigree. His three Stakes horses out of Darshaan mares are headed by Desert Story. In general terms, the Danzig line has gone very well with Mr Prospector and his sons and Shinko Forest's sire Green Desert is no exception. Several of his major winners, including Bint Allayl, Byron and Kheleyf exhibit this cross, so it is well worth trying again. Some of the most effective partners for Green Desert have come from the Sharpen Up line. Ardkin glass is a Green Desert out of a Sharpen Up mare, while the Gr. I winners Rose Gypsy and Invincible Spirit are out of daughters of Kris, and Kris's brother Diesis is the sire of the dam of Strike Hard. Shinko Forest's Stakes winning 2-y-o Omasheriff is also out of a Diesis mare. Mares with Busted and Crepello have also suited Green Desert in the past with three major runners fitting the bill - Desert Prince (out of a Bustino mare), Redden Burn (Crepello) and Owington (2nd dam by Busted). Owington is also one of two major winners by Green Desert out of High Top mares, the other being Desert Style.

Re-introducing Sir Gaylord through Habitat is an option as Green Desert - out of a Sir Ivor mare - has several notable Stakes winners by Habitat, including Midhish, Rowaasi and Shahid. Cape Cross has four Stakes horses, including Gwaihir, Nights Cross and Happy Crusade (Barathea) with Habitat in their pedigrees. Cape Cross's Champion juvenile in New Zealand Florilegium also has Sir Tristram in his pedigree and has Danehill as his grandsire. Mares by Warning, the sire of Shinko Forest's Group-winning half-sister Dazzling Park are another possibility for Shinko Forest, as the latter's Seeking Answers - a Stakes winner in the USA in 2005 - is out of a Warning mare. Shinko Forest's eight Stakes winners also include Close To You, who is out of a mare by Rahy (by Blushing Groom), providing ample support for mating Blushing Groom line mares such as daughters of Rainbow Quest, Groom Dancer, Baillamont, Nashwan, etc. with Shinko Forest.
