Being a son of Sadler's Wells' full brother Fairy King, Revoque would benefit from the same type of mares that have been successful with his own sire and Sadler's Wells. And there is some evidence that Revoque is already a suitable mate for mares carrying Sir Ivor and Habitat, two sires that have enviable records with Sadler's Wells.
The Sadler Wells/Sir Gaylord combination has thus far come up with the likes of Group winners Alnasr Aiwasheek, Barathea, Batshoof, Dance Design, Gossamer El Prado, Chief Contender and Wellbeing. Fairy King, meanwhile, has sired Australian Gr.2 scorer King lvor out of a Sir Ivor mare. More significantly, a couple of other sons of Fairy King - Turtle Island and Encosta de Lago - have begun to show an affinity with the Sir Gaylord line, as has Revoque himself.
Encosta de Lago has sired several Stakes horses out of El Quahira (by Sir Tristram) mares, including Gr 1 winner Delago Brom, while another son of Sir Tristram, Marauding, is responsible for Gr.3 winner Vocabulary (by Encosta de La go). For his part, Turtle Island has combined with a Sir Tristram mare to come up with Australian Gr.3 winner Teddy Bear.
And Revoque, too, has a Stakes horse out of a Sir Tristram mare, plus a Listed winner Gaelic Lord, who is by Sir Gaylord's son Gay Mecene. He also has an Australian Stakes horse out of a mare by Habitat's son Arch Sculptor. Fairy King and Sadler's Wells have combined very well with Alleged mares, producing Brian Boru and Dream Well (by Sadler's Wells), plus Royal Kingdom (Fairy King). And this combination has been reproduced successfully with Irish Listed winner Queen Astrid, who is by Revoque out of a Law Society (by Alleged) mare.
Perhaps the most successful of all nicks is that between Sadler's Wells and Never Bend, which produces inbreeding to La/un. It is seen in countless top-class sons and daughters of Sadler's Wells,
including last year's Breeders' Cup winners High Chaparral (Darshaan) and Islington (Darshaan). It is also very evident in Fairy King's record, with one Stakes winner (Almushtarak) out of a Mill Reef mare, seven more out of Shirley Heights mares and two from daughters of Darshaan.
No surprise then that Fairy King's sons should also have some glory with this cross. Turtle Island's best runner, the 2,000 Guineas winner Island Sands, is from a J.O.Tobin (by Never Bend) and Turtle Island also has a Stakes winner Tawasila, out of a Darshaan mare. Revoque could also benefit from more Never Bend-line mares and he already has a Stakes horse out of a Main Reef mare.
