Indian Danehill

Namid represents a cross - Indian Ridge/Northern Dancer - that has provided much success for Namid's sire Indian Ridge. There are some striking examples of success with Northern Dancer-line mares.

The cross seems to have had good results when concentrated on mating Indian Ridge to mares by the close relatives Sadler's Wells, Tate Gallery and Nureyev. Namid himself is out of a Tate Gallery mare who produced another notable Indian Ridge this year in Namid's sister Noelani. The brothers High Pitched and Godolphin bound Imperial Stirde have a Sadler's Wells dam as does 2005 Stakes Winner SLeeping Indian. Meanwhile Nureyev fills the role of broodmare sire in Listed winner Kierkegaard's pedigree. One possible way of using Namid is to introduce yet more of the Fairy Bridge/Special blood through second generation daughters of Sadler's Wells and Nureyev, through the daughters of - for example - Barathea, In The Wings, Entrepreneur or those by sons of Nureyev, such as Polar Falcon, Soviet Star or Zilzal. This year saw further encoragement for the introduction of mares carrying Thong blood through Group 3 winner Resplendent Glory, who is a Namid out of a mare by Thatching, a son of Thatch (out of Thong). Thatching is also the broodmare sire of Namid's Group placed junvenile Gallery Girl in 2005. Also Namid's dual winning 2-y-o in 2005, That's Hot, is out of a Barathea mare, and his Stakes winning 2-y-o in 2005 Curtail, is out of a Night Shift mare. and his Depending on which you used, this would produce inbreeding to either Fairy Bridge or Special.

Speaking of influential mares, it is possible that the success of the likes of Domedriver, Nicobar and Cap Coz hinged to some degree at least on the presence of Sex Appeal in their pedigree. The Breeders' Cup Mile winner Domedriver is from the Sex Appeal family, while Nicobar - out of a Belmez (by El Gran Senor) - and Cap Coz (Try My Best) have Sex Appeal via the full brothers El Gran Senor and Try My Best. Mares carrying Sex Appeal are a possibility for Namid given that he already has Northern Dancer in his pedigree. Other Northern Dancer-line mares that have been successful with Indian Ridge that could be used with Namid include those by Alazo (Relaxed Gesture, Gr.1 in 2005), Legend Of France (Indian Haven), Lomond (Campsie Fells), Caerleon (Bardonecchia), Unfuwain (Monturani) and Secreto (Cassandra Go).

The Blushing Groom line has also had some excellent results with Indian Ridge which should prompt breeders to try using them with Namid. Don't forget the combination of Nureyev (a three- parts brother to Namici's damsire) with Blushing Groom has already given us Stravinsky. Munir is a good Indian Ridge out of a Blushing Groom mare (Al Bahathri), while Domedriver is out of a mare by Blushing Groom's son Baillamont and Listed winner Fa-Eq is out of a Rainbow Quest mare. Namid's Group placed juvenile, Northern Empire, is also ex a Rainbow Quest mare. Another line well worth considering is that of Pall MalI/Sallust/Tap On Wood.

So far, there are eight Stakes horses by Namid's sire from Pall Mall-line mares, including Ridgewood Pearl, a Gr. 1 winner in four countries, St Clair Ridge and Luminata. Another son of Indian Ridge, Definite Article, has also been successful with these type of mares, producing dual Irish St Leger winner Vinnie Roe from a Tap On Wood mare. This cross has already worked in 2004 with Namid's first set of juveniles; his Group winning son Blue Dakota (out of a Tap On Wood mare) won the Group 3 Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot and his full brother, Namaya, was Group placed from Namid's second crop in 2005. Namid's high class fillies Belle Artiste (Gr.3 winner out of a Belmez - by El Gran Senor mare) and Katie Boo (out of a Sri Pekan - by Red Ransom - mare) provide evidence for an ample amount of opportunities.

The Belmez option has been covered above, but the Sri Pekan theory provides the chance to use the Roberto line, e.g. mares by Red Ransom, Sri Pekan, Kris S., Dr Fong and Lear Fan. Namid's 2006 Gr.2 winner , POut (out of a Cyrano de Bergerac - by Bold Lad - mare) providea another option for breeders.
