Such was the impact that Le Vie dei Colon made on his last start that Time form list him at 126, or their highest rated son or daughter of the successful sire Efisio. This is high praise considering that Efislo's offspring also include four high-class fillies in Attraction (TF125), Hever Golf Rose (TF123), Frizzante (TF122) and Pearly Shells (TFI2I). As well as being a high achiever in terms of racing class, Le Vie dei Colon comes from a strong female line. And it is here that we might find some clues as to what bloodlines might suit the son of Efislo. His dam is a half-sister to the dam of two fine juvenile fillies in Shining Hour and Titian Time.
Both daughters of Red Ransom. Shining Hour showed ample class and precocity to land the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot, while Titian Time developed into one of the better staying two-year-old fillies of last year as she showed when finishing second to Divine Proportions in the Prix Marcel Boussac. Therefore, Roberto-line mares might be well worth a try, as might those with
Blushing Groom blood. Blushing Groom sired two smart runners - triple Gr.1 winner Bailamont and Stakes winner Lazaz - out of Le Vie del Colori's third dam. This is also the sire line that produced the dam of Attraction, one of the very best by Le Vie del Colon's sire Efisio. Le Vie dei Colon is out of an El Gran Senor mare, the sire line that is also responsible for the dams of Tomba and Frizzante. There is no reason not to use Northern Dancer-line mares with
Le Vie del Colon as any inbreeding to the great sire is likely to be quite far back at this stage and the Gr.1 winner Lyphard's Wish, by Lyphard, has already been successful for the family.
Another line that appears regularly in the pedigrees of the better Efisio's is that of Relko. He appears in the dams of Tomba, Casteddu and Pips Pride, so mares carrying Relko blood may be well worth a try with Le Vie del Colon. Best of the Bests (by Machiavellian, by Mr Prospector) and Sueboog (by Darshaan, by Shirley Heights) have also been successful for Le Vie del Colon's family. Another mating possibility would be the Ahonoora line, which has worked with the family through Domedriver (by Indian Ridge ex a Baillamont mare).
