One thing that takes your notice about some of Grand Lodge's better runners is the fact that they carry further lines of Sir Gaylord - remember he himself is out of a daughter of Habitat. So, mares with Sir Gaylord in their pedigree may well suit Indian Lodge, particularly so because he already has Habitat's dam, Little Hut, in his pedigree through his broodmare sire North fields, Habitat's equally capable brother.

This course of action would in effect give the offspring two lines of Sir Gaylord/Little Hut This inbreeding has already been carried out successfully in several of Grand Lodge's progeny. Australian Gr.1 winner Freemason is out of a Sir Tristram (by Sir Gaylord's son Sir Ivor), while fellow Australian Gr.1 scorer Ambulance is out of a mare by Sir Tristram's son Marauding. Closer to home, the Barathea Group 1 winning sprinter in 2004, Tante Rose, is out of a Distant Relative mare, thus possessing a 3 x 3 inbreeding to Habitat. Grand Lodge's Island House, a Gr.3 winner, has a Sir Ivor second dam, while the second and third dams respectively of Aliena and Middlemarch are by Habitat.

Then there are three more Grand Lodge Stakes horses with Sir Gaylord as the sire of their third dams, Interestingly, Irish listed scorer Castle Quest (by Grand Lodge) has a second dam by Secretariat, therefore producing inbreeding to Sir Gaylord's dam Somethingroyal. Like much of the Northern Dancer clan, Grand Lodge has also worked well with mares from the Never Bend line. Gr.2 winner Sandmason is out of a Mill Reef mare and Grand Lodge's top-class middle distance son, Sinndar is out of a Lashkari (by Mill Reef) mare, Gr.3 winners Madeira Mist and Summitville are from daughters of Shirley Heights and the Gr. 1 placed Petroseili has Darshaan as his broodmare sire, while the sire of Raise A Grand's dam is Irish River. Incidentally it was Irish River's son Brief Truce who sired Buy or Sell, a Stakes-winning half brother to Indian Lodge.

Another talented half-brother to Indian Lodge is the Prix Eugene Adam winner Sarhoob who is by Alydar and it was Alydar's son Alysheba who supplied the dam of another of Grand Lodge's top notch runners in Grandera. Alydar and his sons have been a good source of talented broodmares and this cross is well worth some more opportunities. It may well yield dividends to introduce High Top-line mares as Indian Lodge is from the same family as High Top's sire Derring-Do, and Top yule is already the broodmare sire of one Grand Lodge Stakes horse and the sire of Sinndar's second dam.

Indian Lodge's best colt to date from his first crop progeny is Rowan Lodge, whose dam is by Tirol (by Thatching) and out of a Sallust mare, thus providing an opportunity to try mares from these lines.
