A Career Best

Shirocco enjoyed a career best season by winners in 2020/2021, and was responsible for 12 individual black-type performers in that period. His first crop of foals conceived at Glenview Stud account for 11 of those black-type horses, including Willie Mullins’ unbeaten Grade 3 winning hurdler Shewearsitwell.

Off Your Rocco made a bright start to the current season, with the 5YO doubling up in a Listed novice hurdle to bring his record to four wins from five starts. £150,000 purchase Patroclus is another exciting 5YO by Shirocco, with the dual hurdle winner expected to be seen to best effect over fences. “He's a gorgeous, big chasing type,” Nicky Henderson told the Racing Post. “He ought to have many important days over fences ahead.”

Other notable sales results for Shirocco include the £195,000 paid by Henry de Bromhead for Ian McCarthy’s impressive 13L debut PTP winner Ballybough Native. Hurlerontheditch sold to Kim Bailey after winning his PTP bumper for Michael Kennedy, while Loughderg Rocco also earned a change of silks after drawing 12L clear in a 5YO maiden.

In the early stages of the 2021/2022 point-to-point season, Secret She Keeps shaped like an exciting prospect when beating the boys in a 4YO maiden at Castletown-Geoghegan in October. The Rob James-trained mare was subsequently crowned a ‘Star Performer’ in the EBN.  Another to enter the notebooks was Aidan Fitzgeralds' newcomer Queens Vic who was an effortless 10L winner in the 4YO mares maiden at Dromahane.

Shirocco’s older crops continue to prove their worth, with Fergal O’Brien’s Silver Hallmark landing a Grade 2 on just his second start over fences and fellow 7YO Third Wind recording his second Graded success over hurdles.
