A Talking Sire

Kodi Bear’s strong start at stud gathered momentum in 2021, as his first crop trained on at 3, while his second crop produced Group 2 Railway Stakes winner Go Bears Go. Having won on debut, Go Bears Go was just touched off in the Gr.2 Norfolk S.. David Loughnane’s stable star then earned a rating of 111 when taking the Gr.2 Railway S. at the Curragh. He went on to finish third in the Gr.1 Phoenix S. beaten by the shortest of margins and culminated his season with a gutsy performance in the Gr.2 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Sprint when finishing half a length second whilst closing on the winner.

Go Bears Go is an example of perhaps the most impressive aspect of Kodi Bear’s early success at stud; each of his Stakes winners are the first black-type winners produced by their dams. Additionally, four of his Stakes performers are out of maiden or unraced mares.

Small breeders have enjoyed tremendous success with Kodi Bear, led by Stakes Winner Mystery Angel, also Stakes placed on 6 occasions including when chasing home Snowfall in the Gr.1 Epsom Oaks. Measure Of Magic finished third in the Gr.1 Commonwealth Cup, following back-to-back Listed wins. Johnny Murtaghs’ charge previously enjoyed a successful juvenile campaign which yielded two wins and three black-type placings, including in the Gr.2 Flying Childers S.

Other highlights in 2021 include Ever Given’s valuable victory in the Goffs UK Sales Stakes, while Diablotine remains unbeaten following her win in a Listed sprint at Vichy.

Kodi Bear’s success has increased his commercial appeal and his popularity brought a bumper book of mares, giving us plenty to look forward to in the future.
