Sire of The 2021 French Champion Hurdler

Blue Bresil’s achievements from initially small foal crops has seen his popularity boom in recent years. His first crop of just 25 foals produced three black-type winners, including Grade 1 winner Mick Jazz, and the two subsequent crops of 42 foals each, produced another seven black-type winners in total.

The best is yet to come from Blue Bresil, and buyers need little convincing, with his stock selling for up to €120,000 at the 2021 store sales. That price was paid by Tom Malone and Paul Nicholls for a handsome bay offered by Killeen Glebe, while Aiden and Olly Murphy went to a sales-topping €115,000 for Rathbarry Stud’s offering at the May Store Sale. Blue Bresil’s fillies also proved popular, commanding as high as £80,000 and a strong average of €40,889.

Quality over quantity could certainly describe Blue Bresil’s 2015 crop of 63, which includes the awesome L’Autonomie and Grade 1 novice hurdler Blue Lord. At the time of writing, Francois Nicolle’s L’Autonomie boasts an incredible 15 black-type wins; two of them coming at Grade 1 level. Graded success seems imminent for the Willie Mullins-trained Blue Lord, who won his maiden hurdle and was placed in three Grade 1 contests, from just five starts last season.

In 2021 Francois Nicolle and owner/breeder Catherine Coiffier also enjoyed Grade 3 success over fences with Garasil, another son of Blue Bresil. It was a deserved big race win to add to his previous nine black-type placings.

Francois Nicolle previously trained Royal Pagaille, who recorded an impressive hat-trick for Venetia Williams last season, including a 16 length win in the Grade 2 Peter Marsh Chase at Haydock.
