SON OF SHIROCCO BREAKS CHELTENHAM TRACK RECORD

ROCK THE KASBAH (SHIROCCO) bounced back to his best to land the Grade 3 BetVictor.com Handicap Chase at the Cheltenham November Festival, beating the track record by no less than 12 seconds.

Tracking the leader under Richard Johnson, the Philip Hobbs-trained eight-year-old asserted before the second last and stayed on well up the hill to beat Royal Vacation by a length and a quarter.

Philip Hobbs, who trains the gelding for Diana Whateley, afterwards commented, “Rock The Kasbah jumped fantastically and we’re delighted with him. We have the National in mind – good ground suits him and we’ll work back from there.”

Rock The Kasbah was bred by Joe Rogers, whose Ballintry Stud sold him as a foal to Mount Eaton Stud. They later sold him to Aiden Murphy at the Derby Sale for 140,000.
