SIX FIGURE SALES FOR SHOLOKHOV AND SHIROCCO
Impressive maiden winner SHISKIN (Sholokhov) led trade for much of the Cheltenham December Sale when selling to Highflyer Bloodstock for £170,000. Offered by handler Virginia Considine, the bay won a four-year-old maiden at Lingstown by eight lengths last month, having finish third on debut in March.
Highflyer’s Anthony Bromley later explained the appeal of his purchase; “I’ve bought him to go into training with Nicky Henderson. We adored him. He’s got a nice pedigree and is by a proper stallion who has already sired a Gold Cup winner in Don Cossack.” Considine, meanwhile, described Shishkin as “a pure athlete.”
Shirocco sired two six-figure lots on the night, topped by Pat Doyle’s winning newcomer, Silver Hallmark. Bought by Fergal O’Brien for £115,000, the grey rewarded owner Michael Fitzpatrick, whose Kilminfoyle House Stud had retained him as a store at the Derby Sale.
John Nallen was also rewarded for winning with his Shirocco gelding, Minella Royale, who came home 15 lengths in front in a five-year-old maiden at Lingstown in November. Highflyer Bloodstock went to £100,000 for the half-brother to Grade 3 performer Ma Belle Amie.
