RATHBARRY BRED JUVENILE NOW TWO FROM TWO
The Rathbarry-bred AL AAKIF (Acclamation) made it two from two when justifying favoritism in the six furlong Novice Stakes at York.
An authoritative winner over five furlongs on debut, the Hamdan Al Maktoum-trained colt was now ridden by Colm O’Donoghue, who rode him to track the leaders. Making headway from two furlongs out, he was ridden entering the final furlong and led soon after, running on to score by a length and a half. The first pair home finished six lengths clear of the third.
The William Haggas-trained two-year-old was sold by Rathbarry Stud as a yearling at Tattersalls, where Shadwell Estate parted with 160,000gns for him. He is a full-brother to the highly-rated Alfie Solomons (Acclamation), who finished second in last year’s running of the valuable Goffs UK Premier Yearling Stakes. The cross with Acclamation is a proven one, given that their dam is a half-sister to dual Stakes winner Queen Catrine (Acclamation).
