KODI BEAR’S FIRST YEARLINGS PROVE POPULAR
KODI BEAR made a strong start in the sales ring at Goffs UK, where his first yearlings sold for up to £90,000 at the Premier Yearling Sale.
Nine sold for an average of £40,222 (€46,747), having been bred from a fee of €10,000. Top billing went to Aughamore Stud’s Kodi Bear filly out of Midnight Martini, whom they had bought from Rathbarry Stud for €25,000 in February. Clive Cox, who trained Kodi Bear, went to £90,000 to secure the bay, who is a half-sister to three multiple winners.
Trainer Kevin Ryan and agent Stephen Hillen were keen on Kodi Bear’s first crop, buying a pair of colts at Goffs UK for £75,000 and £52,000 each. Blandford Bloodstock, Peter and Ross Doyle and Sackville Donald were others to sign for his first yearlings during the week.

The Joel Boisnard-trained WESSLY (Youmzain) extended her unbeaten record to three when making a successful step up in class in the Prix Emmanuel Tassin.
Run over a mile and seven furlongs at Deauville, the three-year-old conditions race saw Wessly prevail by three parts of a length from the favourite Idoles Des Jeaunes.
Ridden by Theo Bachelot for owner/breeder Fernand Krief, Wessly will now presumably take another step up in class. The daughter of Youmzain is a half-sister to useful miler Ball Prince.

PROGRESSIVE SON OF ACCLAMATION GAINS MAIDEN WIN
The Rathbarry-bred HEXAGON (Acclamation) stayed on well to land the seven and a half furlong Novice Stakes at Ffos Las on Tuesday.
The Roger Charlton-trained juvenile was sent off second favourite, having finished third last time out and second on his previous start. Jason Watson rode him to track the leader, pushing him to assert approaching the two furlong pole and was driven out to score by a length and a half, as the leading pair drew eight lengths clear of the field.
Owned by the Owners Group 032, Hexagon was sold by Rathbarry as a foal to Hillwood Bloodstock. He becomes the third winner out of the mare, herself a half-sister to four Stakes horses.

A return to easier ground saw GOOD NIGHT MR TOM (Tagula) gain his maiden victory in the six furlong nursery at Hamilton.
The ground was described as good to soft, as it was at Carlisle in June when the Mark Johnston-trained juvenile finished third. Hong Kong jockey CY Ho rode the bay to make all the running, asking him to quicken over a furlong out and his mount obliged, staying on strongly to win by two lengths.
Good Night Mr Tom was bred by Peter Molony and is owned by Paul and Clare Rooney. Bought by Kevin Ross as a yearling for £65,000, he is a full-brother to two-time winner Regal Gait (Tagula).

The progressive MAJESTIC MAID (Shirocco) gained a well-deserved victory when taking the two mile mares’ bumper at the Galway Festival.
The Michael Kennedy-trained four-year-old was last seen finishing a close second to Flying Risk (Shirocco) in a similar contest at Limerick under M O’Sullivan, who took the ride once again at Ballybrit. Chasing the leaders in the early stages, the bay improved into second at halfway and led soon after. Headed three furlongs from home, she battled back to lead inside the final furlong and stayed on well to win by a length and a quarter.
Trainer Michael Kennedy was full of praise for Conor Murphy homebred winner, commenting after the race, “She’s very tough and genuine, a handy enough filly who is good and strong. She has a bright future I think.”

IMPRESSIVE DEBUT DOUBLE FOR ACCLAMATION
The Roger Varian-trained DEAR POWER (Acclamation) made a fine impression when scoring on debut in a six furlong novice stakes at Chelmsford.
A 350,000gns yearling, the King Power Racing-owned colt faced seven rivals, including the favourite Jovial, a daughter of Dubawi out of a half-sister to Frankel. Dear Power chased the leaders under Jack Mitchell and was shaken up to lead inside the final furlong, running on well to win by two and a quarter lengths.
Dear Power was bred by Kildaragh Stud out of Debuetantin, a full-sister to Listed winner Desabina and German Guineas runner-up Denice.
Acclamation sired another winning newcomer later in the day when PERSUASION (Acclamation) won a competitive maiden at the Glorious Goodwood Festival. Trained by Charlie Hills, the two-year-old colt shares his purple silks with talented sprinter Garrus (Acclamation), the pair both owned by Mrs Susan Roy.
He raced in mid-division for much of the seven furlong contest, biding his time for a clear run approaching the two furlong pole and quickened away smartly to lead inside the final furlong, scoring by half a length.
Persuasion was bred by Norelands Bloodstock, who sold him as a foal for 155,000gns, while Pier House Stud enjoyed a profit when selling him as a yearling for 220,000gns.
The double marked an excellent run for Acclamation, with his daughter Rose Hip having defied a seven pound rise the previous evening; her third win from her last four starts.
